Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull had an army of Jedis with him at the Dec. 17 midnight screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Eleven of them to be exact – 10 young Jedis and a Jedi Master – all chosen from a Movie with the Mayor contest Hull organized looking for “incredible citizens” who have made a positive impact in the community. The winners accompanied Hull and his family to a private screening of the movie at Premiere Cinema.

The Young Jedi, or padawans in Star Wars lingo, winners included:
  • Wes Selover
  • Shecwia Grey
  • Joel Inventor
  • Clarissa Yancey
  • Justin Campbell
  • Samantha Gonzales
  • Ashley Thomas
  • Andrew Key
  • Margo Peterson
  • Christian Valencia
The Master Jedi title was awarded to Lloyd Spotted Wolf, a Cleveland High School teacher.

“The decisions were not easy,” Hull said. “Every one of them had, at some level, a ‘Wow, that’s cool!’ factor.”

The mayor added the theater was packed, the movie was true to the Star Wars form and everyone “had a blast.”
